The Importance of Exfoliation

Exfoliation is an absolute must in any skincare routine and it is one of the most overlooked steps to healthy, glowing skin. Even if you are cleansing, moisturizing, and using sunscreen on the daily, if you are skipping this step, you are missing out.

What is Exfoliation?

Exfoliation is the removal of dead skin cell buildup from the surface of your skin. It can be performed using scrubs and abrasive sponges or through topical chemical application using acids that dissolve dead skin cells.

Why it’s Important
As your skin gets older, your cells ability to regenerate slows. When your old, dead skin cells build up on the surface of your skin, it can contribute to your skin looking rough, dry, and even dull. Not to mention, an excessive buildup of dead skin cells can clog pores, leading to blemishes and unwanted acne or oil production.

How to Exfoliate

This depends on what type of skin you have. How healthy or sensitive is your skin? You may want to consult with an esthetician to help you select the right method.

One of our favorite ways is to manually exfoliate at least once a week. We opt for a gentle scrub that contains smooth granules that slough off dead skin cells.

We also recommend getting professional assistance with a chemical exfoliation every so often to address a deeper level of exfoliation. For glowing skin, exfoliation is a critical piece of the puzzle. Take good care of your face, and your face will reward you.
